Important Things to Keep an Eye out for in a Full Service Web Business

August 29, 2010

When Javascript web development is offered as a service it is generally a good indicator that the agency
may well be top class. Javascript has evolved to be much more popular since about 2006, but few people do it
well.
To make it easier for JavaScript developers there are JavaScript or AJAX frameworks out there to
assist companies i.e. the prototype framework and things like Mootools which are great.

An example of one of the more newer, more exciting things that the leading digital companies provide as a
service is very much HTML5 web design and development. HTML5 markup is currently in the latter stages of
development as the next revision of HTML.
In the same way as with versions that have come before, HTML 4
coupled with XHTML 1.1, HTML5 markup is a standard for structuring and presenting content on web pages online.

This game changing new standard incorporates features such as embedded videos and geolocation that have
been previously dependent on third party web browser add-ons such as Flash, MS ActiveX components, and perhaps
Adobe Reader. A good HTML5 agency will also probably do JS performance reviews well too.

Numerous web companies at the moment call themselves a full service digital agency.
Traditionally, a
full service agency is one that handles all of the many stages of the advertising process, such as planning,
design, production, and things like placement. These days, whenever an agency is referred to as a full service
agency it generally suggests that the agency are also capable of handling other parts about marketing, this
might be PR, sales promotion, social media marketing and
maybe even offline marketing.

New Government Officials to be Relocated to Yorkshire

May 6, 2010

According to Yorkshire regional development officials believe that the pace at which the government is shifting civil service positions out of the capital, there are chances that Leeds will become the centre of civil servants.

Leeds could become a home to a huge number of civil service workers, currently based in London, within next couple of years. YF (Yorkshire Forward) has already started claiming that Whitehall in the northern part of the city will be the best suited place for Department of Health and NHS gnomes.

The claim has been substantiated by the fact that Leeds boasts of Europe’s biggest teaching hospital, St James’s University Hospital, which has been of great help to the preset NHS civil servants, who were shifted to Quarry Hill earlier.

The successful business relocation of more that 2300 employees from the Department of Health in the Northern part of the city goes on to prove that the city can serve as a perfect location for employees from other government department’s as well.

YF has already started discussing the relocation plans with several government departments that are eager to move their employees from desk space London to areas that are less expensive and more accommodating.

This will also help the employees who live in the suburbs and have to commute long hours to work everyday. They will not only get a stress free life at the Yorkshire but will also be able to enjoy a better life away from London crowds at much lower prices than in London.

Mixed office space outlook outside of London

March 15, 2010

The 2010 Office Trends research from Drivers Jonas has been released and offers a comprehensive idea of what is to come for the office markets of Birmingham, Leeds, London, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Glasgow.

Head of DJ Research, Anthony Duggan, expects that London will be the leader in the occupational market recovery, with forecasted double digital rent growth with the City. However, Duggan warned that while the investment market in the UK will see its yield levels start to level out, it will not be a smooth ride to recovery for any location but the City of London.

Throughout the report is the consistent trend that rental growth will not increase in most regional key centres throughout the year of 2010, and occupier demand will stay weak since it will take some time before Grade A desk space will go into a shortage situation.

Birmingham demand is expected to continue to be weak and driven mostly by occupiers and Government bodies that are facing lease expirations. At the moment, there are over one million sq ft of vacant Grade A office space, with another 3% expected to become vacant within the first six months of 2010. However, the prime rents will increase steadily throughout the year and by its close average out to about 5.5%.

Scotland’s market on the other hand is a bit of a mixed bag, given that the development pipeline of Glasgow is not due to have any new office schemes ready by the end of the year, although there is more demand there than in Edinburgh. This should hopefully allow demand to begin to rise and leasing activity return throughout the year.

Glasgow to Get New Commercial Space in Abandoned Plot

December 30, 2009

Glasgow’s unused 1 million square foot lot near High Street rail is to be developed into a commercial space soon. The Glasgow City Council and Dawn Group have jointly come up with plans to create an office complex here along with residential accommodation.

The area here has been lying unused for 40 years now. All formalities like authorisations and permits have already been obtained for the project. According to expectations, work will be completed by 2011 in the project, which is being called the Collegelands project.

Initial plans include the construction of 102,000 sq ft of office area, which will subsequently be occupied by Glasgow City Council offices. Along with this office space, student accommodations will along come up here. A multi-storey car park will be built to accommodate the vehicles for the shared offices. A total outlay of £200m is being estimated for the project. Preliminary plans also include a Ramada Encore inclusive of a restaurant, hotel and meeting rooms for meeting business requirements.

Speaking about the project, Steven Purcell, Glasgow City Council president, remarked that the regeneration project would bring in new interest in such projects in Glasgow. Real estate markets are showing a marked improvement in the city following several new initiatives here. Dawn Group head MacDonald underlined the fact that this will be a successful pairing between the private and government organisations.

With the completion of this project, many investors will realise the potential in such a combination of strengths. Many new jobs are expected to be generated by this development here.

Proposed Move of the Ministry of Justice Held Up

September 22, 2009

Despite the approval of the city council and the West Midlands Government Office, the Ministry of Justice is in a dilemma over implementation of its plans for shifting its offices from London to Birmingham. The delay in relocation has been apparently attributed to the uncertainty of Whitehall authorities, according to the chief executive of the city council Stephen Hughes.

Plans for the project began last year when Birmingham was asked to file tenders for the proposed shared office complex to be ready by 2013. Consequently, a property for the 250,000 square foot building was chosen in Eastside.

If the shift is finalized by the Ministry of Justice, it will not just be the largest office relocation in the history of Government departments but also create a regional hub that will generate as many as 6,000 jobs in Eastside.

Two main problems that have been identified for the delay in completion of the work are the lack of clarity in the approach of the Ministry despite attempts made by others to go ahead with the plans, and the approach of the Ministry to look for a more cost effective ways of making the shift.

According to Mr Hughes, the project is quite likely to be delayed until the next elections are over. A Ministry spokesperson has said that the biggest hurdle is comparative costs involved in the exercise, and that the Ministry has been working on ways of streamlining their functions with considerations of cutting down on extra expenditure, especially in light of the current trend of cost cutting across industries and in different organizations.

Need-To-Know on Banner Printing

August 14, 2009

When you are looking for a banner shop, there are numerous topics you must think about first. The printing house that you get your orders from ought to be utilizing high-quality high-resolution printers. A banners colour does fade over the years, simply if it is screened onto a high-grade vinyl banner, its opportunities of lasting longer is greatly improved. When designing your tailored vinyl banner, try to make it use up the entire maximal banner size that your banner printing company grants in order to reduce any excess fabric.

Some standard printing workshops will provide a price step-down to companies that use a full yield of the banner materials.

A full D.P.I banner is very essential for your advertizing needs, as a print that is genuinely pixelated will not draw in much visits to your business organisation. Some banner publishing companies can lower the cost of ordering a custom-made banner by dealing instantly to consumers.

If you are purchasing from a local shop make sure that they offer total gloss printing. Many banner companies provide merely incomplete colour jobs. If a regional shop is not able to extend the functions you want then you definately want to see seeing a shop on the web.

Appliances That Work (Well)

June 24, 2008

When you’re young and just starting out, don’t you wish for a magic wand to take you to a wonderful time in the future when all your mistakes and successes in choosing appliances are known in advance? Well, you just have to ask a person who’s been there.

The best coffee pot we ever bought was a Black and Decker Thermos Coffee Maker.
It cost about $70.00, made great coffee and what’s more, kept it hot for hours. Coffee tastes bitter when it cools off and is re-heated.

The best steam iron we came across is the German brand, Rowenta. Their top of the line model puts out steam like a car wash, yet is light and easy to use. I recommend using distilled water instead of tap water which contains minerals.

I could never understand why light weight in a vacuum cleaner got top priority. The insides of most vacuums reveals thin plastic motor mounts and poorly designed ar flow passages. The latest Dirt Devil upright with the removable dirt canister works pretty well, but doesn’t have the quality of a Electrolux. Regular maintenance is necessary for a long life. Recently, Hoover offered a bagless model called “Fold Away”. Terrific suction for only $69.00.

The wide mouth GE toaster is a favorite in our house. Every type of bread and muffin can fit inside it’s big throat. Hand sliced bread, slices of pound cake, half rolls, cut-up Italian bread and pop tarts all fit in easily. Ours is ten years old with no problems.

VCR’s present a myriad of choices to the average consumer. Digital recording and TV’s are here but much too expensive. You can still buy a Panasonic VCR with hi-fi audio and three speed recording capabilities for $100.00. Recently the price of DVD recorders have come down. These recorders work well recording TV programs for later viewing. Make sure it has the capability of zapping past the commercials. Larger sized TV screens do not necessarily mean more enjoyment by the viewer. The human eye uses only the narrow center portion for sharp viewing. A viewing distance of ten feet requires a TV screen of only 25 inches for optimum viewing. Buy the best one you can afford - it’s worth it. If you must have a new flat TV, the DLP version of the LCD screen is the brightest. Sony makes a good one in the 42″ size for about $1400.00.

Buying a new computer can be frustrating. Everyone has different priorities, some of which look great in the ads but have little effect on every day use. Important qualities to look for are size (smaller is better), memory (at least 512MB RAM and tech support. Built-ins should include a DVD/CDRW and a modem. I have had good luck with Hewlett Packard for many years but all the top computer names are excellent. Don’t feel you have to upgrade to the latest/greatest every two years - the computer is a tool for many uses and will still work well many years from now. The new LCD monitors with the computer built into the base is a great space saver.

We are all familiar with Teflon coated cookware, but the greatest invention is the vegetable steamer in stainless steel. Check out the new versions with clear glass lids - the ones from Germany are terrific. Stainless steel cookware can last a lifetime without burning the food and still look like new. The Teflon coated cookware still excels in woks, frying pans and bake ware. A heavy grade of aluminum is recommended for spreading the heat evenly and is worth the extra expense.

Mainly, try to remember that quality appliances work better, are easier to use, last longer and are cheaper in the end.

I’m tired of products that are being sold

As newer and better — than what I’m not told.

And when their low price is ‘under wholesale’

I’ll bet that story is not the whole tale!

Someday I think I would fall over dead

If once I bought something and came out ahead!

Retired portrait photographer. I appreciate any feedback.

Advertising by Pixel

April 15, 2008

There’s a new phenomenon on the Internet - one that you may not have heard of before. It’s called pixel advertising.

Pixel advertising is just what it sounds like. You purchase pixels, instead of text or banner links on a website. For most pixel sites, you are free to choose from 100 pixels all the way to a million.

The pixel sites work like this. The site has 10 pixel by 10 pixel squares across the page. These squares make up a nice little grid. Each square, then, is for sale. You can combine these squares to make a bigger impression.

To purchase a square, you’ll need to know the size you want to purchase, and you should have a graphic pre-made for your selection. If you want a default square, you’d make a 10 pixel by 10 pixel graphic. Granted, not much is going to fit into that little square, but if you get prime placement, you may be able to get away with it.

The amount of pixel advertising websites is also becoming more widespread, which is driving down prices. While the very first sites were charging a dollar a pixel, it is not unusual to see pricing as low as ten cents a pixel (or ten dollars per square) now.

These sites also do some good for their advertisers. If they are popular enough, the links provided will drive more traffic to their websites. If they are paying a fairly low price for their box, they are probably getting a good amount of traffic. This traffic, hopefully, leads to higher revenue for the advertisers.

While pixel advertising is definitely not here to stay, we should all enjoy the ride. These sites make it easy and affordable for advertisers to get one-way backlinks that they need, and they drive more traffic to their site for a minimal cost.
